An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 has been recorded near Whakatane this evening.
The quake, 10km south of the town at a depth of 158km, was recorded at 6.16pm.
GeoNet lists it as a "weak" intensity quake.
It came a day after a small earthquake near White Island.
