Holidaying school children had the shock of their lives when Prime Minster John Key turned up to their holiday programme.
About 40 children had dressed up in superhero costumes at Playtopia Playland and Cafe and they were looking forward to a special visit from Rotorua MP Todd McClay.
But outof the blue, Mr Key walked through the door and the children cheered and clapped when they realised it was the Prime Minister, donning a batman cape.
Mr Key spent 10 minutes answering questions, such as how he became Prime Minister, did he like his job, was he rich and what was it like to meet Kate Middleton and the Queen.
"Kate is very tall and the Queen is now 86 and she said to say hello to you all," he said.
Mr Key interacted with children, playing games and talking with them in the art section. The day before the children had drawn about 20 portraits of the Prime Minister which he had a good chuckle at.
Playtopia Playland and Cafe co-owner Aroha Armstrong said they wanted to create an opportunity they would never normally get, so dressing up was part of the plan to help the children realise they can achieve their dreams.
