Rotorua police are remaining tight-lipped regarding a search for a person missing on Lake Rotoiti since Sunday.
Today, the Police National Dive Squad were on the lake searching for the person in an area between Hauparu Bay and Ruato Bay, just past Moose Lodge.
The dive squad, who arrived from Wellingtonon Monday afternoon, were looking for a person who apparently "went under" about 3.45pm on Sunday.
Rotorua police Search and Rescue Squad member Constable John Fredericksen would not say if they were looking for a man or a woman or what age they were.
Mr Fredericksen said he would not release any further information about the person or the incident due to requests from members of the person's family.
Last month, Auckland man Colin McCormick drowned after he jumped into Lake Rotoiti near Otaramarae to retrieve his hat, which had blown off as he was heading to Manupirua Springs hot pools with his partner and 9-year-old son.
Described as a strong swimmer, Mr McCormick was wearing a lifejacket but it fell off after he dived in to the lake.
His partner threw him a rope, but he could not reach it after the boat was blown away from him by strong winds.
