Rotorua police have released security camera images from a city bar in the hope of identifying the offender for a robbery.

The man knocked on the door of the Kiwi Spirit bar on Hinemoa St around 7.55am on Wednesday.

When a female staff member went to investigate he forced his way into the bar and stole a large sum of cash.

Security footage shows the man wearing a hoodie with a fairly common but distinctive fluorescent pattern on the front and back. He was also carrying a shoulder bag with a single strap that appears to be bright orange or similar.

The victim has indicated that he had a scar, possibly a burn mark, approximately 5cm to 7cm long on the inside of his wrist.

Police investigations indicate that he approached the bar by cutting through an alleyway from Eruera St on to Hinemoa St and he left the same way.

It is believed he got into a vehicle on Eruera St and there was likely a driver in this vehicle waiting for him.

Police want to hear from anyone who might recall seeing a stationary vehicle and driver on Eruera Street or saw anything else which might be relevant to this investigation.

Anyone who knows or suspects the identity of those involved is also asked to contact Rotorua police on 07 348 0099.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
