Police Notebook: Rotorua's Glenholme targeted by burglars

The following incidents were reported to Rotorua police during the past few days:

Offences down for the week

Rotorua police had a "relatively quiet" week with only 130 offences reported in the last seven days.

Area prevention manager Brendon Keenan said that was quite good.

"That compares to 208 offences the week before.

"It was a pleasing week to see the offences coming down."

He said while they could not rely on only two weeks' data and call it a trend, any quiet week was a good week.

Glenholme hit by burglars

Over the weekend nine burglaries were reported to police, five of which took place in Glenholme.

The others were in Western Heights, Tarawera and two in Koutu.

Keenan said there was a real trend of increasing burglaries in Glenholme.

"It will be an area that we target with our policing."

The stolen items included food, small electronics, money and a mountain bike.

Good catch for Sunday crime prevention unit

"The crime prevention unit had a good week," Keenan said.

He said through proactive investigation police found a person on their warrants to arrest list.

The crime prevention unit will be used during the weekend of Flochella on February 3-5.

Increase in shoplifting

Keenan said there had been an increase in shoplifting from shops in Rotorua's inner city.

"It's understandable that with the school holidays we see an increase in this type of behaviour."

Missing vehicles

Police are seeking the following vehicles which were stolen over the past week.

A blue 1993 Nissan Largo, registration AZD923, taken from Toru St, Hillcrest.

A white caravan taken from Steeles Lane, Western Heights.

A red Honda TRX500 motorcycle taken from Jarmey Pl, Mangakakahi.

They are also looking for the plates ESP221 and 7Y802 which were stolen.
