Cordons on Arawa St in Rotorua’s CBD have been lifted after a police incident.
A person in a Free Palestine T-shirt earlier spent hours on the roof of a single-storey building containing a Defence Force careers office.
Police were first called about 12.40pm, a statement said.
No injuries were reported and police thanked the public for their co-operation while the matter was resolved.
A Rotorua Daily Post reporter said just after 3pm the cordons had been lifted. A witness said the person at the centre of the incident left with police.
During the incident, Arawa St was closed between Tutanekai St and Amohia St and there were police on the ground and on the roof.
A Rotorua Daily Post photographer on Arawa St said the person appeared “angry” and “distressed” and was “talking about Palestine”, he said.
The person also performed a haka.
The Rotorua Daily Post has sought an update on the incident from police.
A prior statement said there was no risk to the public and more information would be released “when we are in a position to do so”.
