Police are appealing for witnesses to a shooting incident in Rotorua last Sunday.

Police said a suspected stolen vehicle was driven from Hamilton to Rotorua where it was involved in a chase abandoned by police.

About 5pm the same vehicle, with two occupants inside, was seen at the intersection of Te Ngae and Isles Rds.

The passenger got out and allegedly shot at police. A nearby motorist was injured during the incident.

A man was arrested on State Highway 30 a short time after, however, police are still looking for one other man.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Andy Flinn or Detective Sergeant Garry Hawkins on (07) 349 9400, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
