Photographer up for prestigious award

Stephen Parker's award-winning photo of Judge Chris McGuire is up for another prestigious award.

Rotorua Daily Post chief photographer Stephen Parker has been named a finalist in the 2016 PANPA Awards.

His underwater photograph of Judge Chris McGuire is up for the Portrait of the Year in the regional newspaper category.

The awards were open to newspapers from across Australia and New Zealand, as well as English-language papers from Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.

The photo of Judge McGuire was named the best portrait at this year's Canon Media Awards, which cover New Zealand publications. It was also part of his portfolio that helped win Mr Parker the overall Senior Photographer of the Year award.

PANPA winners will be announced on September 2.
