A person has been airlifted to hospital after a quad bike rolled at a rural Whakatāne property.

A St John spokeswoman said one ambulance and a rescue helicopter was sent to the property just before 6am.

One person was airlifted to Tauranga Hospital.

According to the St John Twitter account the person was in a moderate condition.
