One person dead in Bay of Plenty crash near Kawerau

One person has died in a crash near Kawerau in the Bay of Plenty.

Police said in a statement the crash happened on State Highway 34, Kawerau Rd West between State Highway 30 and Kawerau just after 5pm on Friday.

The crash involved two cars.

One other person received moderate injuries, police said.

State Highway 34 was closed for a time.
