One person was injured when a Whakatāne dairy was targeted twice in less than 12 hours.

A police spokeswoman said police received a report of an aggravated robbery at the Peace St Dairy around 5:10pm yesterday, by two youths allegedly with a hammer.

Police found two youths on a street nearby. They were spoken to and were going through the Youth Aid process, the spokeswoman said.

One person in the store required medical attention for an injury to their head.

A St John spokeswoman said one ambulance was sent to the scene and one person was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

A small quantity of confectionery was allegedly taken.

Shortly before 4am today, a vehicle was used to gain entry into the same dairy.

Police eventually tracked down the vehicle allegedly involved and arrested two occupants.

The pair were youths and burglary charges are being considered, the police spokeswoman said.

Peace Street Dairy owner Kapita Khitri said the whole ordeal was "very sad".

"We are a bit shaken but getting there."

She said the fog cannon was activated during the first incident.

She said the ram raid this morning was the first in their 15 years owning the store.
