There have been no appeals lodged against the Rotorua District Council's decision to grant the resource consent to the developers of an eastside complex which will include a supermarket.

Earlier this month the council granted resource consent to Rotorua developers Holmes Group to build a convenience retail complex known as Lynmore Junction on Te Ngae Rd opposite the entrance to Iles Rd.

The $10 million centre will include a supermarket and is expected to create almost 300 jobs.

The council's team leader of resource consents, Portia McKenzie, said the appeal period ended on Tuesday and they had not received any appeals.

Holmes Group, which owns the 2.7ha Te Ngae Rd site, applied for resource consent in December last year to develop the centre.

The site, which was formerly Holmes Packaging, was sold in 2000 and is leased to Sealed Air (New Zealand). Sealed Air Rotorua announced in April it was proposing to consolidate its Rotorua manufacturing operations to its site in Hamilton and anticipated the closure of its Rotorua facility by mid-2014.

Holmes Group managing director Ryan Holmes said previously they were working with multiple potential tenants, including supermarkets, but would not comment further. He said work on the development could not begin until September next year when Sealed Air's lease expired.

The resource consent will allow for a supermarket, cafe, restaurant, fastfood outlets, service station, trade retail, various medical and health services. There will be restrictions around specialised stores including food retailing, bookshops and pharmacies.

Specialised furniture retailers, electrical and electronic goods retailers, department stores, clothing and shoe stores will not be allowed to be set up.

Bars, taverns and liquor stores will not be allowed.

Poker machines or other gambling establishments will also not be allowed. However, Lotto will be allowed.
