Nick is full of confidence going into the international event - ranked the country's number one seed in his age group after winning the recent Tennis NZ Masters 14s event in Wellington.
The prestigious event pitted the top eight players in New Zealand for their age against each other with Nick beating number two seed Reece Falck of Christchurch 7/6 6/4 in the final - who he will team up with for the doubles in Melbourne.
"Reece put up a really good fight but I just made sure to stay calm and just focus on each point," Nick said.
"I managed to overpower him quite a bit with my forehand. It's a favourite shot of mine so when the big points mattered I made sure they were on target.
"Also I've worked a lot on my drop shots so was able to catch Reece out.
"Me and Reece work well together on the court though so we'll certainly make a good team in Australia."
Nick, a Bay of Plenty representative, was encouraged into the sport by "tennis mad" dad Guy, the head coach at Lynmore Tennis Club, who said he spotted his son's potential straight away.
"The very first time he hit the ball it was obvious there was talent there," he said.
"He is really working hard and I believe he has the potential to go very far because he has the technique but also the right mental attitude needed."
Nick trains two hours a day and plays for Lynmore and Rotorua combined sides in the Waikato Baywide Premier interclub men's competition, as well as making the journey regularly to play for Auckland side Bucklands Beach.
Recently he has been training with Rotorua Tennis Club's coach Marvin Barker.
Nick has aspirations of one day playing professionally with an ultimate aim to make a mark on the Grand Slam circuit.
"This is what I want to do," he said. "I know it will take a lot of hard work but I want to be one of the top 10 players in the world and play in all the Grand Slams.
"It may mean that I have to do a scholarship in America but I'll do what it takes to get to the top in tennis."
