A new 24-hour free public toilet is to be installed in the inner city early next month.

The new Pukuatua St toilet is to be set into the side wall of the building on the corner of Tutanekai and Pukuatua streets, known for its prominent Pink Terraces and native bird mural.

The new toilet would be able to cater to Night Market patrons and Green Corridor users.

The toilet is part of Rotorua Lakes Council's Inner City Revitalisation Strategy and follows the recent closure of toilets also in Pukuatua St, after the building's lease expired.

The council recently upgraded public toilets in Hinemoa St and also expects to provide new family-friendly toilets in future as part of the library and child health hub to be developed in the Rotorua Library building.

In addition to the new Pukuatua St toilet planned for installation in November, existing 24-hour inner city public toilets are also at Hinemoa St, the i-Site and Visitor Centre, skateboard park and at two separate locations at the Lakefront.

Other public toilets available during business hours are at the library, council Civic Centre, Kuirau Park, Government Gardens and privately-owned facilities at Rotorua Central mall.
