A daily vitamin has given one Rotorua mum a clean bill of health three winters in a row.

Kylie Corbett, a mum-of-three, reckons the simple multivitamin has helped her steer clear of cold and flu, despite this winter reportedly being a bad one for illnesses.

"I used to get sick three times a year and then my mum recommended these to me," Miss Corbett said.

"I'm a busy mum with three kids. I'm on the go all the time."

The multivitamins she takes are bought from the supermarket - Healtheries Garlic, Vitamin C, Zinc and Echinacea - and are designed to boost the immune system.

"I've taken it every day through winter the last three years and not had a cold or the flu yet. I'm a smoker too and I've found a lot of people who are healthier than me have been getting quite sick. My doctor thought it strange but no harm in trying something.

"My mum still asks if I'm taking my pills. I've told a lot of people about them."

She said her children, aged 5, 9 and 10, had not been sick this winter either and they weren't taking any supplements.

The Rotorua Daily Post asked readers on its Facebook page what they were doing to stay well this winter. Some mentioned eating mandarins and using hand sanitiser, others recommended Buccaline tablets, an orange a day or drinking orange, honey and ginger.

"Flu shots flu shots flu shots so so so important," wrote one.

"I'm a nurse and my whole family, parents included, have had the flu shot - I insisted. Influenza is so so easily transmitted."
