ON THE LINE: The Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge attracts around 10,000 entrants each year.
A new mountain bike category has been added to the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge which is celebrating its 38th anniversary.
The 60km mountain bike category will join the 30km and 85km races and was added in response to riders' feedback.
"We're already well regarded as New Zealand's premier cycling
event, and are always looking for fresh ideas to add to our overall event experience," event director Kay Bake said.
Under construction is the new 7km stretch of trail which takes in views of some of the geothermal steam fields. It will form part of the new 60km mountain bike course, with the existing 85km Contact Huka Challenge category.
A maximum of 1000 riders will be able to take part across all mountain bike categories. Entries open on July 1. The event will be held on November 29.
