A breakfast event is to be held the morning after the Lions game to feed the hungry masses and support local businesses - and a call is going out for vendors.
Rotorua Lakes Council events manager Martin Croft said the council wanted to create a festival atmosphere around the MaoriAll Blacks versus Lions game, to be held on Saturday, June 17.
"We expect there will be a great buzz throughout the central city that weekend, including the morning after the match when people will be out looking for breakfast and brunch."
Called The Big Brekkie, the event will be a family-friendly pop up on the Village Green between 8am and 11am on Sunday, June 18.
"We're looking for food trucks and foodies now for Big Brekkie and are looking for a good mix of local kai, traditional big breakfast foods, seafood and international food.. and we encourage local eateries and businesses to open."
Rotorua branch president of the Restaurant Association of NZ, Sharon Wallace, said she thought the Big Brekkie idea was great.
"The industry should definitely get behind it. It can only be a positive for Rotorua."
Mr Croft said the last Lions game in Rotorua in 2005 was huge and this time the council was expecting more than 21,000 visitors to be in Rotorua during the game weekend, including about 4000 international visitors.
"We'll have long tables under cover where people can sit to eat and enjoy a communal breakfast plus other seating options, or people can go picnic style on the grass. There will also be entertainment and music."
