Police are asking witnesses to come forward following a violent attack in Ngongotaha that saw a man knocked unconscious.

A man who was at a bus stop on Taui St in Ngongotaha on Thursday last week at 8.45pm was approached by a man and assaulted.

Rotorua police crime prevention manager Inspector Brendon Keenan said the attacker inflicted several blows to the man's head and body causing him to lose consciousness.

"The victim sustained significant injuries to the head and face from the unprovoked attack."

He said police were seeking any witnesses or those who helped the victim after the attack.
