Every Friday in May, Rotorua residents may enjoy their lunch with some local entertainment.

It's the seventh annual New Zealand Music Month.

The Rotorua Public Library, in conjunction with Rotorua's Kanohi Records, has organised a series of free lunchtime Jammin in the Park concerts.

The first
was held in Jean Batten Square yesterday.

It featured local artists Rodger Cunningham from Kanohi Records, Dennis August, Murray Clark, Jill Brier, Vic Potter and Kevin Wepa.

About 100 people enjoyed the country, Latin-themed styles Maori music in the warm, sunny autumn weather.

Kiri Jarden spent her lunch-break watching the concert. She said it was a very good idea to provide entertainment for members of the public.

"[It's an] excellent idea. It's always good to support New Zealand music and support local musicians," Ms Jarden said.

"It's a wonderful thing to do in your lunch break ... out of the office and into the sunshine."

Ms Jarden said she enjoyed all the music and would be back next Friday for the next concert.

* The Music Month concerts in Rotorua will be held every Friday at the Jean Batten Square by the library from 12pm to 2pm.
