Wow, wow, wow.

Many accolades to all those quilters involved in the Rainbow Quilters' show in Rotorua. From the time my friends Kate and Barbara and I stepped into the hall, the warm, friendly ambiance was as bright as all the quilts on show. The way the quilts were displayed - in the cubicles - must have taken many hours of planning, and made viewing such a pleasure.

We were blown away by the talents of the quilters; the designs and colours, and marvelled at the painstaking intricate work on many of the quilts. To Iris and the other lady - who told us about the different techniques used to create these masterpieces - thank you for sharing your knowledge. Thank you also, to the dinner ladies, it gave us a chance to reflect and share our thoughts - on our choice for the winning quilt - this was not an easy choice. It was the most enjoyable and best three hours I have spent - immersed in the talents of others.

Thank you.

Rachmanism - Peter Rachman a Polish refugee who became infamous as a slum landlord making millions out of the plight of people unable to afford decent housing in Britain.

As a journalist, I well remember the scandal and the change in the laws that helped to make the rented properties in the UK safer and fairer. I bring this up because the same has to happen here - already in Auckland slum landlords are plentiful. It is the time now to put a stop to this blatant greed-fuelled abuse of the shortage of rentable property.

We need strict new legislation to protect the vulnerable and helpless who are currently at the mercy of those seeking to take advantage of their plight.

We were disappointed with the disrespect paid to many of the property owners hosting rugby enthusiasts this last weekend i.e. conditions properties were left in.

Maybe tell your friends/tourists they will not be welcomed on such occasions in the future.
