Interestingly, the 22-year-old had not played league since his school days.
"I only just started playing again this year after five years, but before that I played in high school," Mea said.
He stopped playing after leaving Tokoroa High School to get involved with his church on Saturdays.
Mea said his teammates had talked him into returning this year and he was enjoying his new position at hooker.
"I love it a lot. I used to play out in the centres but you don't get as much ball there. Whereas now, when you are at hooker, you get a lot of ball and more chances to play around."
The entertaining playmaker received plenty of cheers on Saturday when he scored out of dummy half.
Mea picked the ball up at the back of the ruck and did a full 360, selling his defensive markers, before slipping through a hole to score.
"At hooker, you have got both sides yelling at you to give them the ball. I thought I should get the try [myself] so no one could complain," he said. "No one can moan if you get the try."
One of his favourite players in the NRL is fellow hooker Isaac Luke, who also likes to dart out of dummy half and catch out tired forwards.
Mea said his teammates were helping him a lot this year in his return to the game.
"It's really fun. A lot of my old mates are really supportive to keep playing and to get better."
Pacific have won all five of their matches this year and are looking to defend their title from last season.
Pacific face off against an in-form Ngongotaha side this Saturday at Puketawhero Park in Rotorua.
