League: Pikiao apply heat for finals

Pikiao have made a statement ahead of the Bay of Plenty District premier playoffs with a big win over Central.

The final round of the regular season was played on Saturday, with the semifinal spots already decided in the premier and reserve grades.

Pikiao defeated Central (Rotorua) 70-14 on Saturday as they build towards the playoffs. The top rugby league sides in the Bay of Plenty District will meet this weekend in the semifinals.

Pacific will host Pikiao on Saturday in Tokoroa in the major semifinal of the premier grade, with the winner of that match advancing straight to the grand final.

Ngongotaha will host Taupo in the minor semifinal, with the loser eliminated.

In the reserve grade, Reporoa will host Pacific in the major semifinal and Pikiao Seniors will play Pikiao Reserves in the minor semifinal. Top premier club Ngongotaha also had a convincing win during the weekend as they build towards their semifinal clash this weekend.

Meanwhile, minor premiers Pacific (Tokoroa) will be well rested after a bye at the weekend.

Premier: Ngongotaha 40 Mangakino 20, Central 14 Pikiao 70, Taupo v Forestland (TBC), Pacific bye.

Reserve grade: Pikiao Res 46 Pikiao Snrs 38, Putaruru default to Tauhara, Turangi default to Reporoa, Pacific bye.
