Safety is always paramount, but accidents can happen - according to Adrenalin Forest owner Jean Caillabet.
Mr Caillabet spoke to The Daily Post after 57-year-old Clifford Brabet died when he fell 14m while on the high ropes course at Tree Adventures in Woodhill Forest near Helensville, 40km northwest of Auckland, on Saturday.
The Adrenalin Forest is a high-wire adventure course similar to the one in the Woodhill Forest and is located at the TECT All Terrain Park about halfway to Tauranga from Rotorua on State Highway 36. Mr Caillabet said more than one million clients had been through adventure rope courses in New Zealand and this was the first fatality.
Mr Brabet, an IT professional, was on a team building day when he stepped off the side of a platform and plunged to his death, witnessed by his wife and daughter.
Mr Caillabet said he did not know the details of the incident but knew Tree Adventures management personally. "They are certainly not cowboys, they are a very good company committed to doing their best job and doing it safely."
