There was plenty of yelping, barking and sniffing as hundreds of dogs socialised with one another at the SPCA/VETPlus Dogs Day Out fundraising appeal yesterday.

VETPlus veterinarian Trevor Kelly said the annual occasion at Scion Research grounds was enjoyed by both dogs and their owners.

"Everybody had a great time, the weather was perfect, the dogs behaved themselves and the appeal raised valuable funds money for SPCA services," he said.

Dogs large and small were treated to walks in the grounds while there were also cafes displaying doggy treats, as well as games, raffles, food stalls, and best-dressed competitions.

Dog agility trainer Chelsea Marriner also put on a display with her show dogs.

Around 250 dogs and their owners took part in the fundraiser, Mr Kelly said.

The VETPlus event has been a major fundraiser for the Rotorua SPCA animal shelter for the past five years.

Funds raised go towards helping pay for animal de-sexing and general care.
