Eb and Sparrow will perform in Rotorua this weekend.

Rotorua get ready for the "wow factor" when one of the country's leading folk bands, Eb and Sparrow, perform here this weekend.

The five-piece folk band, who have been gaining attention across New Zealand, will perform in the Kusabs Building tomorrow, giving locals a taste of their impressive talents.

The band, fronted by singer Ebony Lamb, have supported such big names as Rodriguez, Pokey LaFarge, Beth Orton, Anika Moa, The Warratahs, Delaney Davidson and Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson, and Aldous Harding, among others.

Their debut album has soared to number eight in the New Zealand Top 40 charts.

Organiser Karin Vincent said the opportunity to see such a talented band perform was not to be missed.

"They're such a fantastic band, they definitely have the wow factor," she said.

"Their music is so unique, it's hard to describe but I think everyone in Rotorua should take up the offer to see them perform live."

Eb and Sparrow's new debut album, released through Home Alone Music, is self-titled. The 10-song collection is built on their three preceding EPs.

Ms Vincent said one of the factors that made the band unique was singer Ebony Lamb's powerful voice and the way she delivered meaningful lyrics.

"Her voice is so unique, she sounds like a cross between Cat Power and Gillian Welch," she said. The band will be supported by duo Ted and Gloria, two American musicians whose sound is Americana and country.

Tickets are available from Musicworks Rotorua and Eventfinder or at the door.
