Rotorua Golf Club ladies enjoy a luncheon or two.

But what they like more is to give to a charitable cause.

Rotorua Golf Club president Wendy Fraser said the annual Christmas fundraising ladies' luncheon has been tweaked this year with the Salvation Army in mind.

"Normally, for the past seven or eight years, we have held the luncheon and donated gifts brought along by members to donate to a charity.

"But this year we thought instead of gifts, we will each bring along a non-perishable item and donate it to the Salvation Army foodbank through the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal."

The Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal was launched this week to collect donations of money and food for the Salvation Army's foodbank.

"The Salvation Army is a local organisation which provides a lot of assistance to the community and we thought it would be great if we could give them a hand," Mrs Fraser said.

The luncheon will be on Friday, December 13 at Landmark House, opposite the Rotorua Golf Club, on Fenton St.

"We expect we will be able to donate well over 100 cans to the Rotorua Daily Post appeal for the Salvation Army."

Donations to the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal for the Salvation Army foodbank can be made at our Hinemoa St office between 8am and 5pm weekdays.

People can donate money or non-perishable food. Food donations can also be made at the Salvation Army's Community Ministries at Community House on Haupapa St. If your school, church, business, organisation or you as an individual are organising a can drive or fundraising event, let us know by contacting reporter Mike Watson, phone (07) 348 6199 ext 57049, or email mike.watson@dailypost.co.nz
