With the fireworks ready to go off and people dancing down at the Village Green, Rotorua is glowing with hopes for the New Year at tonight's Glo Party.

The Glo Party is the third and final event in the three-day Glo Festival and over 1000 people have already turned up to welcome in the New Year.

Amongst the crowd Cheryl Hally from Rotorua was enjoying the concert and thought the crowd would pick up a bit later in the evening.

"I'm looking forward to the fireworks and JGeeks."

She said she didn't have a New Years resolution because she had struggled to keep them in the past.

Trent Taylor ventured from Matamata with his sister, partner, a few other mates as well as their kids.

He said the kids were looking forward to the fire works and although he didn't have a resolution, he was excited for a new year.

"Bring on a fresh year, there's nothing like a fresh year."

Glo Festival organiser Tia Smith said the three day festival had had a really good positive response with the weather having been great.

"About 11,000 people came out to the movie night. Everyone's enjoying the family aspect.

The three-day festival was first held in 2012, before that it was just one party with a concert and fireworks.

"We wanted to include more of Rotorua and provide other things for families to do as well. The idea was to offer something different to celebrate Rotorua at the end of the year."

Senior Sergeant Denton Grimes, at about 8pm, said the festival was running smoothly.
