State Highway 5 has reopened after a crash between a logging truck and a ute injured multiple people near Taupō this morning.

A police spokeswoman said police were alerted to the crash between High Level Rd and Wairango Rd at Iwitahi just after 6am.

A ute overturned and blocked the northbound lane.

Two people have serious injuries and two people are in a moderate condition, the spokeswoman said.

A St John spokeswoman said two ambulances and two helicopters were sent to the scene.

Two patients were airlifted in a serious condition to Waikato Hospital and two other patients were treated for moderate injuries and taken to a local medical facility by ambulance.

The road was reopened about 11.45am.
