It's a simple equation for Rotorua United - win the final game of the season and win promotion.

United defeated West Hamilton 5-0 at Neil Hunt Park in Rotorua on Saturday to take another step towards promotion.

They only have one game remaining before the end of the season, and sit one point above Papamoa on the Waibop Federation Two ladder.

Katikati have already won the Federation Two title and United look most likely to gain the second promotion spot.

A victory against West Hamilton in Hamilton on Saturday, August 23, will guarantee them a place in the Federation One competition next season.

The United goal scorers on Saturday included Josh Chemis, a brace from Shadley Petersen, Hayden Jones and Brad Hill.

Ngongotaha were on the verge of the top four in the Federation One league going into their match with Otumoetai on Saturday, but lost 1-0 away from home.

Ngongotaha remain in fifth spot on the table with six games to go.

League leaders AFC Fury (Tauranga) defeated Tauranga Boys' College 4-2 to move closer to the Federation One title. If they win this weekend against Melville they will claim the title for a second consecutive year.
