Support for the All Blacks in Rotorua was strong on Saturday when about 100 people turned up to the Village Green for a mass haka.

The "flash mob" was arranged to mirror similar hakas being carried out in Australia and other parts of the world to show support for the All Blacks in the final of the Rugby World Cup.

Organiser Wahia Walker-Poroa said the event was a "spur of the moment thing".

"I was scrolling through Facebook [Thursday] night and came across a flash mob event on a Kiwis living in Aussie page. I thought it was such a cool idea so decided I would try to set one up in Rotorua."

Ms Walker-Poroa said the turnout was not as large as expected but what the crowd lacked in numbers was made up for in spirit and enthusiasm.

"It went pretty well with probably 80 to 100 people turning up," she said.

"Everybody enjoyed it with people coming from out of town from places like Matata and Murupara, and even a family from Auckland joined in.

"We saw some massive ones in Australia on Facebook, but ours was just as cool."
