In Rotorua, summer days are not always sunny. We at the Rotorua Daily Post thought it was timely to highlight five things locals can to do on a rainy day.

Build a fort
Whether you're 5, 15 or 35, you're never too old to build a blanket fort. Rainy days are
the perfect excuse to push your furniture to one side, hitch up some blankets, chuck a bunch of cushions on the floor and watch movies with your loved ones.

Hot springs
There is nothing more comforting than wading into a hot pool when it's raining. Being surrounded by warm water while droplets of cold rain hit your face sends you into sensory overload. You can pay to go to the Polynesian Spa and Waikite Valley Thermal Pools, or free options include the Hot and Cold Pools and Kerosene Creek.

Rotorua Library
The library is a great place to go if you want some peace and quiet and is child-friendly. If you're not a big reader, free community activities are often held there. Today for example, a robotics workshop is being held from 10.30am to 12pm for ages 8 and up. It costs $10, bookings can be made at www.rotorualibrary.govt.nz.

Reading Cinema
If you have children screaming to get out of the house, check out what movies are playing at the cinema. At the moment there is Coco (PG), Ferdinand (PG), The Greatest Showman (PG), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (PG), Pitch Perfect 3 (M), and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (M).

Baking competition
This can be particularly entertaining - though probably messy - if you have young ones taking part. Get some ingredients, divide the kitchen into work stations and task everyone to make the tastiest home baking possible. Not only will this keep your family entertained while it's bucketing down but you end up with a cupboard full of (hopefully) tasty treats!
