Firefighters were called to a vegetation fire near Paengaroa in the Bay of Plenty this afternoon.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern fire communications shift manager Peter Stevenson said they were called to a row of trees on fire on Old Coach Rd about 12.36pm.

It was over an area 300m by 50m, he said.

The fire is now out.
