Father and son missing in Te Urewera, search under way

A search and rescue operation is under way for a father and son who didn't return from a tramp in Te Urewera.

The middle-aged father and his teenage son were expected back at 5pm yesterday.

The pair was reported missing about 10.30am this morning.

Police said the father was an experienced tramper and the two were well-equipped.

The search was expected to continue until dark.

Police asked anyone who may have seen the pair to contact Wairoa police on (06) 838 8345.
