Mid-afternoon yesterday, she said there had been about 1400 children come through for the hunt so far.
"I think they are really enjoying this environment. Usually it is in the Government Gardens.
"It's nice we see families working together and exploring new facilities."
Carol Te Papa said they decided to head along to the Easter Egg Hunt because it was something fun for the children to do that did not cost a fortune.
She said it was their first time taking part in the Rotorua Museum Easter Egg Hunt.
"It's a local event and it's a physical thing we can get out and do."
Ayla Potroz, 7, said she was looking forward to getting lots of exercise while doing the Easter Egg Hunt.
"You get to run round a big park and get to find clues."
She thought finding the eggs would have both hard and easy parts to it.
