Cancelled due to Covid last year, back with a vengeance this year.

It's Centre Stage Taupō calling for auditions for the musical hit Mamma Mia, playing at the Great Lake Centre from June 19 to June 26.

Mamma Mia showcases Abba's hit songs to tell the hilarious story of a young woman's search for her birth father. Set on a Greek island paradise, on the eve of the young woman's wedding three men from her mother's past come back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. Who will give the bride away on her wedding day?

Director Sharon Shanks is hoping to shake people out of holiday mode and get them to come down and audition during the first week of February.

"We need singers, dancers, actors, band members and we really want to encourage people to have a go," says Sharon.

An experienced team will be working with Sharon to put the show together, including Tauranga musical director Elise Rohde, and Palmerston North choreographer Dean McKerras.

Sharon says there are many varied roles in Mamma Mia and anyone aged from 16 to 65 years with an interest in singing and dancing should come along to auditions. She says backing singers and band members are also required.

"An audition can seem like a daunting prospect, but if you can sing better than Pierce Brosnan you should have a go," said Sharon.

Rehearsals will initially only be on Sundays and will increase in frequency closer to the production date.

So if you are a maestro in the shower and a hotshot on the dance floor, Centre Stage Taupō would love to see you.
