Multiple people were injured in a crash that closed part of State Highway 2 in the Bay of Plenty last night.

A police spokesperson said they were notified of the collision in Waioeka Rd about 7.18pm.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said six people were injured in the crash, including two seriously.

Two helicopters were sent to the scene and flew two people to Whakatāne Hospital, the spokesman said.
