Rotorua woman Ellie O'Brien has found a novel way to pay for breast implants.
She is seeking sponsorship via a website called www.myfreeimplants.com.
Miss O'Brien wanted to get breast implants after being teased about having small breasts. She believes breast implants will give her more confidence and make her feel
womanly.
The website allows women from all over the world to upload photographs of themselves, which can then be viewed by people who pay money. That money is then collected for the women, who use the funds to pay for the plastic surgery.
Miss O'Brien has set up a profile on the website and uploaded tasteful pictures of herself. She is fully clothed in all photographs.
She said she could interact via the website with benefactors, most of whom were men.
She can send personal messages, chat online, send photos or videos of herself.
Each time a benefactor sends a message to her, $1 goes into her trust fund.
Benefactors can also donate money and Miss O'Brien has heard of benefactors making donations of US$4500 ($7440).
She has had her profile on the website for two months now and has so far raised $153. Her goal is to raise $11,000.
The 19-year-old mother of one said that when she was younger she got teased about the size of her breasts and, as a result of breastfeeding, her breasts had become even smaller.
She first saw a story about the website on television chat show Tyra last year.
"For me it's [getting breast implants] about confidence and feeling womanly. I don't want to go gigantic but it would be nice to fill a B cup."
According to the website, it pays the funds directly to the doctor's office for the exact cost of the surgery.
If a woman leaves the website before she reaches her goal, the benefactors are then free to transfer any donations they made to her to any other woman of their choice.
One of the women who joined the website left it soon after as she thought it was too sleazy. But Miss O'Brien said that, while some women put explicit photographs of themselves on the website, she would not be doing that.
"Mine are all classy and with clothes."
Miss O'Brien said she was also careful to choose the right benefactors.
"Just those who like to chat about their day, things that are going on in their life. Someone you would talk to like a friend."
She said she would not be interested in talking to any of the benefactors who "pushed the boundaries" or spoke inappropriately.
She hoped to have raised enough money by the end of the year.
Her partner, Billy Macfarlane, said he was initially sceptical about the fundraising exercise but, after seeing the website, he believed it was safe. Miss O'Brien could always block anyone she didn't want as a benefactor.
"It's a means to an end for her."
