Advance NZ Party candidate Antoinette James describes herself as "a person of integrity and commitment" who believes in autonomy of the family.
That's partly why she homeschooled her six children, now aged from 27 to 17 years, and part of her motivation in standing as the candidate in the Taupo electorate.
"If I start something, I'll see it through. I've got family values. Part of that is the autonomy of families and the ability for parents to be the authority over the decisions for their children."
Antoinette, an author, lives on a 'micro-farm' at Mangakino where she is working on becoming as self-sufficient as possible, growing her own food and rearing livestock.
As part of that Antoinette is interested in people managing their own health and growing and managing their own food.
She says people need to have autonomy over themselves and their families as well as strong family values and chose to home school partly because she dislikes the education curriculum's emphasis on students becoming global citizens.
Her books include novels, non-fiction books on homeschooling and historical fiction, as well as a geopolitical book espousing the anti-UN conspiracy theories embraced by Advance NZ.
Her interests include needlecraft, knitting and crochet.
