Food and donations continue to flow in for the Rotorua Salvation Army foodbank appeal.

Rotorua commanding officer Major Bill Millar said it was heartwarming to see the support from the community.

The Rotorua Daily Post started the appeal two weeks ago in response to the foodbank running low on food to give.

"We had one lady bring in boxes of food and a little container of biscuits for the staff," Mr Millar said.

"It's heartwarming and encouraging to be on the receiving end of this. We deal with a lot of disappointing things in the community and for the public to come on board has been wonderful.

"We love what we do but the people are becoming part of our operations."

Mr Millar said there was still a steady demand for their service and they were preparing for the school holidays.

"What often happens is families turn up and it's a matter of hospitality, they don't turn people away.

"Many times during school holidays there is a demand on us and we know very well, it's extra demand for being a responsible family member."

Mr Millar said they also had generous donations dropped off at the Rotorua Daily Post office with $1520 of cheques handed in over the last week.
