The Rotorua Daily Post has been announced as a finalist for a prestigious Newspaper of the Year award in this year's Canon Media Awards.

In the Newspaper of the Year (up to 30,000 circulation) category the Rotorua Daily Post is one of four finalists, along with sister NZME newspaper Hawke's Bay Today.

Chief photographer Stephen Parker has also been named a finalist in four categories - Photographer of the Year, Best Feature Photo, Best Portrait Photo and Best Sports Photo.
Mr Parker has won a number of honours while with the paper.

Katee Shanks, the editor of the Rotorua Daily Post's sister paper Whakatane News, was named a finalist for Community Journalist of the Year.

Scott Inglis, NZME regional editor - Bay of Plenty, said he was proud of the Rotorua Daily Post editorial team.

"They are talented and hard-working journalists who produce lively, relevant and interesting local news for our readers."

The winners will be announced at a gala awards evening at Te Papa in Wellington on May 20.
