Rotorua cricket teams' abysmal form continues in the premier club cricket competition, with both sides racking up another loss.

Playing the first of two rounds in the Lonestar Baywide Twenty20 competition at Fergusson Park, Tauranga, Mount Maunganui chased down Central's 132/9, losing only three wickets during their run chase.

Central's top run scorer was Jason Trembath (80), with Tauranga's Alex Gooding, Dale Swan and Nick Smith each grabbing two wickets a piece.

Tauranga batsman Mike Corbett (74no) and Dan Hill (36) top scored for the home side's 133/3.

It was a different matter in the second round for Central, with the side grabbing a surprise win against Cadets.

However, Bay of Plenty Indians continue to struggle to make their mark, with Greerton making easy work of the Rotorua side's 85 all out.

In the other matches, two blazing centuries dominated the first two rounds of the competition, played at Fergusson Park in Tauranga at the weekend.

Led by a brilliant 105 runs from Bay Development batsmen Ben Musgrave, defending Baywide T20 champions Tauranga Boys' College defeated Otumoetai Cadets, in a repeat of last season's title decider. Cadets batted first and reached 158/9, with Chris Page top scoring with 49 runs.

The second turn at bat belonged to Musgrave, who attacked the ball at every opportunity, posting his 105 off just 59 balls, which included 11 boundaries and three sixes. The defending titleholders cruised to a first round victory with seven wickets in hand.

In other round one match-ups, Te Puke accounted for East Bay United with six wickets to spare, Mount Maunganui chased down Central's 132/9, while Greerton cantered to a win over BOP Indians after removing the Rotorua side for 85.

Greerton top order batsman Cam Neal took his team's innings by the scruff of the neck to smash an unbeaten 104, in his side's total of 185/3 against East Bay United in round two.

The boundaries at Fergusson Park where consistently under threat as Neal smashed the Eastern Bay side's bowling attack.

However, East Bay United master blaster Alex Yates was not fazed by the large target and he reached 92 before being dismissed.

Although his teammates continued the attack, they came up short, being removed for 160, to give Greerton what turned out to be a hard-fought victory.

Te Puke joined Greerton and Mount Maunganui on two wins apiece, defeating BOP Indians, Mount Maunganui strangled the Tauranga Boys' College batting attack to grab a 35-run win.
