The drums are starting to beat for Rotorua Central skipper Jason Trembath to be included in the Bay of Plenty men's team after an incredible start to the 2014/15 Baywide season.
Scores of 92 off 58 balls against City Sports Bar Te Puke and 56 not out off an incredibleestimated 11 balls against the Bay of Plenty Indians in two T20 fixtures on the weekend have done much to strengthen a case that was already solid after a quality Attrill Cup hundred against a strong Western Bay of Plenty side the previous weekend.
Bay of Plenty Cricket statistician Barry Leabourn said historically lax scoring meant it was difficult to confirm whether the innings against the Indians was the fastest half century in Baywide cricket history, but speculated that it well could be.
Eight sixes and two fours got the job - chasing 68 - done in the fifth over, with Trembath hitting 13 sixes.
The dashing all-rounder was seen at Bay Oval the following day to watch the Bay team fold on first innings to Northland due to a middle order collapse, but played down the aggressive knock.
"I'm not sure how many balls it was, but there were four [sixes] in the first over," he said while walking his dog on a makeshift lead.
"They were bowling half-trackers - we wanted to get it over with early."
Trembath has a useful left arm orthodox option and is one of the finest fielders in the competition and should go very close to making the side for either the next two-day match against Counties Manukau on Saturday week or for the upcoming annual one-day tournament in Taupo.
