Government eyes Rotorua for extra MIQ despite city's plea for 'no more'

Rotorua has become the new dumping ground for new MIQ, gangs and temporary housing. There needs to be a review on just how much Rotorua can safely handle.
-Anita W

I suggest Wellington becomes the place for more MIQ facilities. This might encourage a tighter border!
-Phil G

Why not repurpose the Beehive as an MIQ facility. After the Government do not use it these days to hold Parliament - except for their personal TV promotions in their theatrette. Seems like Parliament being suspended is the most achievable metric by Labour since Covid arrived.

Rotorua once a tourist gem in NZ transitioning into a slum town by this government because Labour has written off the great tourist town of ever being one again.
-Paul E

I'm an Aucklander and I stand with the people of Rotorua on this. The way this government is disregarding the people of Rotorua is a scandal that will be recorded in history.
-Oscar R

After all the sneaky level 4 evacuees have been sent back home to Auckland, the Government could commandeer all the empty baches. Voila! Problem solved

So cruel for the people of Rotorua. The price they're being forced to pay for having all those near empty hotels, which are no longer being used for visitors.
-Brian H

Crazy thoughts ... MIQ in Rotorua already has the local police stretched to their limits!

What about the existing barracks. Aren't the army already deployed at all MIQs?
-Anthony C

I wonder what plans the government has for renovating and rejuvenating these MIQ hot spots and, in Rotorua's case, returning the city to a desirable tourist centre?
And when they plan to do that?
