Local jazz lovers will be in for a treat when the Lindsay Meech Jazz Band comes to Rotorua.

The band, hosted by the Rotorua Jazz Club, will perform at the Arawa Lounge at the Rotorua Racecourse on Sunday, giving locals the opportunity to enjoy their unique style and catchy tunes.

The Lindsay Meech Jazz Band take inspiration from the Dixieland style of jazz made famous by of Eddie Condon.

They have performed nationally and internationally, with their shows attracting hundreds of fans.

Band member Bob Ward has played with several British jazz bands, while Laurie Stringer and Lindsay Meech are founding members of The Vintage Jazz Band.

Owen Kneebone has played drums in The Society Jazzmen, among other popular bands, and John Wilcox, the band's pianist, founded The Bridge City Jazzmen. Meanwhile Glyn Frewin is well known for his ability to play a variety of styles.

Rotorua Jazz Club's Roger Crawford said the event was a fantastic opportunity for locals to see an esteemed band perform live.

"It's something for everyone. It's a good mixture of sounds, a bit of everything really.

"I'm certain the crowd will enjoy it," he said.

Mr Crawford said he expected about 150 people to turn out, but hoped there might be more.

"Come along, we're a friendly bunch so we'll make you feel at home."

The Rotorua Jazz Club meets on the first Sunday of every month.
