Santa has been kind to the Rainbow Springs Kiwi Encounter team, delivering not one, but two Christmas kiwi chicks.

One chick from Maungataniwha hatched early on Christmas Day, and was followed on Boxing Day by a second chick from Tongariro.

The two chicks will spend their first few weeks at the Kiwi Encounter Brooder Room growing stronger and entertaining all the visitors, before being released back to their home grounds.

They are two of more than 85 hatches at the facility this season.

Earlier this week husbandry manager Emma Bean said the facility was well on track to achieving a record number of hatches for the 2017-18 hatching season.
