A Rotorua engineering consultancy has made a generous donation towards the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal.

Index Engineering co-director Ingrid Snyman handed a $500 cheque to the newspaper this week towards the appeal beneficiary - the Rotorua Salvation Army foodbank.

The total amount donated averaged around $83 from each of the six staff members who are employed at Index Engineering.

The company tendered contracts for heavy engineering projects in the Rotorua region and nationwide.

"Working in Rotorua has been beneficial to the company, and we are always looking at ways to give back to the community," Mrs Snyman said.

"The appeal towards the foodbank is a worthy cause - there are many families who struggle at this time of year and often go into debt to provide.

"We hope the donation will make a difference to some families."

The Christmas Appeal was launched last week and already more than 100 non-perishable cans and packets of food had been donated.

Last year the appeal raised more than $38,500 towards the foodbank.

Donations to the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal for the Salvation Army foodbank can be made at our Hinemoa St office between 8am and 5pm weekdays. People can donate money or non-perishable food. Food donations can also be made at the Salvation Army's Community Ministries at Community House on Haupapa St. If your school, church, business, organisation or you as an individual are organising a can drive or fundraising event, let us know by contacting reporter Mike Watson, phone (07) 348 6199 ext 57049, or email mike.watson@dailypost.co.nz.
