A car has been found partially submerged in a Rotorua creek.

A police spokeswoman said the submerged car, near Tarewa Rd, was reported about 9.23am.

Police and Fire and Emergency NZ staff were called to the scene.

A Rotorua Daily Post photographer said there was no one in the car.

None of the witnesses who reported the incident had seen the car enter the water, so it was not yet clear how long it had been there, the police spokeswoman said.

Jasmine Adams, who owns the nearby Rotorua TOP 10 Holiday Park, said she felt the house shake and heard a loud bang in the early hours of this morning.

"The dogs started barking so I opened the door to let them out. I wasn't sure if it was a fast truck that had gone around the corner or another crash.

"As it was pouring with rain, I couldn't see anything. I listened out for any further sounds and heard nothing so assumed it must have been a truck."

Adams said there were so many crashes on that corner, usually due to speed and people underestimating the corner.

The submerged car was removed by a tow truck.

Police inquiries continue.
