Bras are normally tucked away out of sight, but they are rapidly becoming the star of the Off the Wall exhibition.
Off the Wall: World of WearableArt _ Up Close, showing now at Rotorua Museum, has a whole section dedicated to these dramatic under garments. The Bizarre Bras have come
out from hiding and revealed the enormous potential for highly creative and witty reinvention.
The seven bras on show have been chosen from the WOW historical collection by Dame Suzie Moncrieff (WOW founder) and Weta Workshop's Sir Richard Taylor.
From budgies to cockroaches, cranes to metal armour, the themes and stories behind these bizarre bras are as amazing as the garments themselves. Each one an intricate work of art created with diverse materials, techniques and inspiration.
Remarkable Uplift was the winner of the Bizarre Bra section of WOW in 2006, as well as Runner Up to the Supreme winner. Created by Russell Sutherland, the inspiration behind the bra was Queenstown's building cranes and a backdrop of The Remarkables mountain range.
