Bins attract more than clothing

Clothing bins on Pukehangi Rd may be removed as people are dumping rubbish beside them.

Barraud Pl resident Tim Henneveld has found more rubbish at the bins which are close to the intersection with Hodgkins St and he has had enough.

"It happens all the time and especially overnight. It's disgusting."

Mr Henneveld said this time it was household refuse.

"There was a mattress, broken toys and ripped up clothing but sometimes there's microwaves and of course old TVs."

He said the clothing bins should go.

"There's forever rubbish being put there because it's a remote spot. They [clothing bins] should be at a shopping centre where people can't dump rubbish so easily."

Keep Rotorua Beautiful co-ordinator Christine Findon said the Rotorua District Council was aware the site was a problem and was considering removing the bins.

The operators of the bins "were very proactive and very, very good at cleaning up the site once they were informed there was rubbish".

The bin operators could not be reached for comment.
