A Rotorua woman accused of stabbing another woman multiple times has been denied bail.
Lillian Maree Campbell, 21, appeared in the Rotorua District Court before Judge Russell Callander this week for a bail hearing.
Campbell is facing one count of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Her lawyer, Harry Edward, told the court police were reviewing the charges and they could soon be upgraded to attempted murder. He said it could be more than a year before the case went to trial.
Police allege Campbell stabbed a woman she was drinking with at a Fordlands house about 15 times on March 21. The victim was taken to Rotorua Hospital. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening and she has been discharged.
Two police officers who responded to calls about the alleged fight were praised at the time.
One provided first aid to the wounded woman while the other arrested Campbell after a chase.
Campbell was refused bail and remanded in custody to reappear in the High Court on May 26.
